Cosmetic Mascara is the favorite product of many woman to produce those long dark lashes. Some feel that Cleopatra started the tradition of darkening the eyes many thousands of years ago. Somewhere along the way woman decided it was absolutely necessary to have long thick lashes to complete their individual beauty treatment. Some have been applying mascara which normally in it’s basic form is a blend of waxes, polymers
and pigments, during their early teen years and continue through
adulthood.

To achieve the desired effect the mascara is applied in numerous layers in the morning. After a sufficient amount has been laboriously applied an instrument such as a safety pin, or paper clip or whatever is handy, is used to carve the lashes into long, full, seperated lashes. It does not require much imagination to realize how time consuming and dangerous this method must be. How many times an eye has been scratched or punctured in the name of beauty can only be imagined.

Not only is this a painstaking task but copious amounts of mascara must be purchased and applied to continue the routine. While the average mascara user might be content with an application of 5 or 6 strokes with the mascara brush, the devoted fan will not be happy until 30 or 40 brush strokes have been applied. This as can be imagined can cause clumping of the lashes which must then be separated and shaped with the afore mentioned tools.

The practice has become so popular that the cosmetic mascara industry has devoted much research in an effort to make the process safer and less troublesome while at the same time making sure to take advantage of the increasing sales of products. Mascara has become big business.
